Position Summary: The Automotive Yard Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall management of inbound and outbound yard inventory, leading the automotive storage yard and Vehicle Processing Centre (VPC) operational team, and coordinating the management of vehicles within the yard in line with customer requirements. Key responsibilities include coordinating all yard-related activities including storage planning, as receiving of vehicles from carriers, parking and stowage management, arranging export picking lines, loading carriers, and planning additional contractual and adhoc service requests. Additionally the Automotive Yard Operations Manager will manage vehicle receipting and release, manage vehicle movements within the VPC, conduct regular yard inspections and ensure inventory storage quality in line with international vehicle quality management standards and automotive customer requirements. The role entails managing in-yard vendors and coordinating with service providers to ensure operational excellence and managing the overall KPI reporting on yard activities to external customers, maintaining internal records and, providing staff training. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Manages inventory levels in line with strategic and operational objectives. • Coordinates daily yard operations and yard logistics requirements in line with process requirements • Ensures daily fulfilment of key operational planning proactively to deliver on customer service expectations • Ensures management of bonded vehicles in line with Customs requirements • Maintains yard stock and coordinates vehicle stock takes and yard audits • Coordinate vehicle preservation management processes • Coordinates Pre-Delivery Inspections process to meet customer requirements • Ensures adherence to standard processes, driving process orientation and process improvements and driving daily/weekly/monthly target achievement • Ensures adherence to vehicle booking-in, vehicle release, and in-yard vehicle movement • Ensures efficient vehicle preservation based on customer policies including battery charging, vehicle starting and rotation, PDI fitments, and vehicle microdotting. • Ensures adherence to water recycling standards for vehicle washbay and provide regular reporting • Ensures efficient staff and resource allocation including drivers, technicians, and documentation clerks • Troubleshoots technical issues and resolving customer complaints effectively • Manages in-yard vendors and reporting requirements • Analyses financial data to improve profitability and sets performance metrics and KPIs for operational success and financial health • Co-ordinates KPI reporting and continuous improvement plans and improvements to customer service quality and performs quality controls to monitor production KPIs • Supervises staff teams and manages employees to execute the transportation plan • Maintains fluid and professional dialogue and alignments with our customers, and prospective customer base • Leads, coaches, and develops employees to enhance performance and employee involvement, promoting regular performance reviews with the local site teams. • Recruits, trains, and supervises staff and ensures capacity planning • Focuses on innovations solutions to drive operational efficiency and actively participates in groups innovation platforms. • Develops and implements processes to ensure regulatory compliance • Ensures organizational compliance with legal requirements • Ensures adherence to company’s quality, operational and OHSA safety and compliance plans as per company guidelines • Responds to and manages service interruptions within the yard • Identifies and mitigates safety risks relating to the yard operations, personnel and service providers • Ensures effective utilisation of company’s operational IT system to drive operational efficiency • Ensures Yard maintenance, repairs and upkeep Requirements: Education and/or Work Experience: • Bachelor’s degree or qualification in: Logistics/Warehouse Management/Transportation Management/ Supply Chain and Logistics/Maritime/International Trade. University degree is a plus • Proven work experience in a similar role with 10 years of experience in Automotive logistics and yard management • Should have knowledge of DOT rules and regulations • Proficiency in English
Skills:
• Strong leadership skills and ability to co-ordinate staff activities • Strategic thinking with strong knowledge of supply chain and logistics processes • Strong knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP • A strong understanding of yard safety guidelines and compliance requirements • Ability to make quick decisions based on effective situational analysis • Analyses and interprets data to support decision-making • Technical knowledge of Automotive industry and Automotive logistics • Proficient in multitasking and prioritising tasks effectively • Reliable, organized, and honest • Proactive, adaptable self-starter • Experienced in influencing cross-functional professional teams • Conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments and deadlines and prioritise team agenda • Supports final group decisions • Effectively handles multiple priorities • Ability to work overtime as needed
